Photographic Contest

MIGRANT WOMEN
"A picture. A woman. Women. Migrants."


ilCAntinonearte Teatri located in Montepulciano (Siena) Italy, Piazza Savonarola 10/a, is organising a Photographic Contest, as coordinators of the "Migrant Women" Project, co-financed by the European Commission Cultural Programs of 2007-2013.

The Photographic Contest:

MIGRANT WOMEN
"A picture. A woman. Women. Migrants."

Will be accepting entries until midnight of the 7th of March 2009 with the following criteria:


Location

Photographs can be made in any location where migrant women work or live, and should depict migrant women or be about the plight of the migrant woman.

Application Conditions

- Only non-professional and amateur photographers can apply to the competition.
- Applicants must be major aged (18 for Italy, 21 for USA...)
- Each participant can submit no more than two images.
- Only images in the form of a digital file will be accepted, and must follow the technical criteria or it will be refused, prints will also be refused.

Participants can send two images (colour or black and white, unaltered or digitally manipulated from a digital camera or composed of digitally scanned photographs. Images must contain primarily PHOTOGRAPHIC imagery, images deemed not to be of photographic content will be refused, images that contain plagiarized content will be refused).

Images should be sent to the e-mail address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by post (on a CD or DVD, prints will not be accepted) to Concorso fotografico "MIGRANT WOMEN", c/o Associazione "Il Grifo e il Leone", Via di Voltaia nel Corso 29, 53045 Montepulciano (Siena), Italy, entries should be accompanied by the following information:

  • Name of the photographer.
  • Image title.
  • An explanation of how and what camera type and software was used to make the image.
  • Date and places of where the image was made.
  • E-mail and/or telephone number as a contact for providing the results of the competition.

Technical Criteria

  • Format: - Minimum 2592 x 1944 pixel
  • - Maximum 3456 x 2304 pixel
  • - The picture file must be in the format of a JPG and an RGB file
  • - The picture file must be named as follows: firstinitial_surname01.jpg and if sending two, firstinitial_surname02.jpg (example: a_massoni01.jpg) to ensure that we identify all the sent materials.


Process for Selecting Winners

The "Migrant Women" Project will assign a code to each image. All photographs will be anonymous when delivered to the Judging Commission on the morning of the 8th of March 2009.

The Jury is composed of seven members:

Leonardo Mattioli - Manager Director of "Centritalia" Review
Davor Ciglar - Graphic Designer for the "Migrant Women" Project
Francesco Oliviero - Theatre actor and author
Maurizio Pellegrini - Multimedia Communication Assistant for the "Migrant Women" Project
Amedeo Vitale - Multimedia Communication Assistant for the "Migrant Women" Project
Anne Leighton Massoni - Professional Photographer and Photography Professor at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, New Jersey, USA

The Jury will meet at ilCAntinonearte Teatri in Montepulciano (Siena) Italy to select the winners by the 10th of March 2009.

The evaluation criteria will be:

  • originality
  • image composition
  • ability to communicate the contest's theme

The Jury will choose three winners.

The winning photographs author's will be contacted by the "Migrant Women" Project through e-mail and/or telephone by the 12th of March 2009.

The Prizes

First Prize: Weekend for two in Montepulciano, with overnight stay at the B&B "Locanda San Francesco (SI -Italy) with lunch and dinner provided by the Antico Caffè Poliziano, a historical Italian Caffè, in April, June or July 2009

Second Prize: 12 bottles of the most prestigious Nobile di Montepulciano Wine

Third Prize: 6 bottles of the most prestigious Nobile di Montepulciano Wine

The prizes will be awarded on the 17th of March 2009 during the Conference "Arrivate! Ruolo e azione delle donne nella società multiculturale" (Arrived! Women Role and Action in multicultural society) that will take place in Montepulciano at the Teatro Poliziano. Winners are encouraged to attend but the "Migrant Women" Project will not be responsible for funding travel or accommodation arrangements.

The best pictures will be published on the Competition's Photo Gallery, on the website www.migrantwomen.eu

The first prize photograph will be published in the Conference Extracts.

The 15 best photographs selected by the Jury will be published in the Review "Centritalia".
